Petkana Staleva

Dr. Petkana Staleva is a residency-trained medical optometrist at Chittick Eye Care.

Originally from Chicago, Dr. Staleva earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Illinois at Chicago and her Doctor of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry. She completed a residency in Primary Care and Ocular Disease at ICO, gaining advanced experience managing complex ocular disease, including neuro-ophthalmic conditions and high-acuity urgent cases. During her residency, she also mentored and taught optometry students. Dr. Staleva provides full-scope care to patients of all ages, with special interest in dry eye, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, and binocular vision conditions. She is passionate about patient education and known for her compassionate, detail-oriented approach-especially in complex or unclear cases. Outside the clinic, Dr. Staleva enjoys hiking, exploring nature, and spending time with her family and her rescue cat, Georgina. She values honesty, connection, and continuous personal and professional growth.
